What's new in Voice Out?

The place for new features, official announcements, and updates on Voice Out.

v1.34 (September 14, 2026)

  • The pop-up now adjusts its height to fit your screen, improving usability on smaller displays.
  • Made panels easier to close with an X button and a highlight on the active sidebar button.
  • Improved the loading indicator and placement of playback controls.
  • Fixed Google WaveNet voice setup and added clearer, step-by-step prompts for granting access and connecting.
  • Improved automatic English voice selection with Samantha on macOS and Microsoft Zira on Windows, when available. Cleaned up the voice list by hiding several novelty voices on macOS and unavailable ChromeOS voices on other platforms.
  • Improved player reliability: active playback is protected from idle timeouts, and inactive player tabs are cleaned up more reliably.
  • Updated the Voice Out extension icon.

v1.30 (July 7, 2026)

  • Fixed a bug where PDFs would not open correctly. PDFs now open in Chrome's native PDF viewer within the Voice Out reader.

  • Redesigned pop-up with improved language support. The language panel now shows your active language and voice.
  • Fixed many bugs to improve stability and reliability.

  • Added support for reading documents in Arabic and other RTL languages.
  • When changing voices, the cursor now stays at the same location instead of resetting to the top.
  • Fixed YouTube embed on the setup page.

  • Added 130+ premium voices. Voice Out now supports 380 premium voices across 22 languages.

  • Added support for Pronunciation Rules. This allows you to map tricky words, abbreviations, and symbols to how they should be spoken. Perfect for acronyms and technical terms.
  • Improved text formatting in pop-up.
  • New options page that lets you control all the settings.
